Talented but Tired Teachers

Teachers not only have students but also parents, children, friends and partners. Usually these roles are separated by location (home, school, friends houses) and time (business hours, evenings and weekend). But during this time of social distancing, there are no longer boundaries so how are they doing everything?

By working incredibly hard for the students they love.

Teachers work-life balance has changed because their social worlds have collapsed into one household. Unless they have a large house, yard and nanny they would find themselves regularly interrupted by housework, family, pets, kids wanting food, attention, and generally being rowdy.

I’m a teacher. I am speaking to my teacher friends and seeing their posts on social media. My heart breaks for them. Teachers are working incredible overtime hours to provide entertaining, educational and accessible work for students at school and online. Many have children themselves and understand the frustration felt by Australian parents.

Just some of the amazing and talented teachers I know

Teachers are feeling the pressure from their schools, the students and their parents, the state and federal government, the media and their own professional pride. The work they have achieved is outstanding. We should be applauding them for the hard work they are doing.

If you have a teacher in your life, thank them for the fabulous work they are doing for our children.
